On this week's show:

* Featured New Rock Album: The Shins, *Heartworms* (2017)  . . . James Mercer is The Shins now, & works with who he likes . . . so it's mostly on him to orchestrate how good the band's albums will be . . . this time around, he & his current mates have put together a really good LP . . . full of sweet, strange, dark, funny Shins-y goodness . . . nice to have such a good new record from them . . .

* Featured Classic Rock Album: The Guest Who, *Share the Land* (1970) . . . This Canadian band lost their co-frontman & lead guitarist Randy Bachman just before making this album, but they recruited two new players & pull of a pretty good LP despite all . . . beyond the title hit & "Hand Me Down World," there are a lot of treats to be found on this record . . .

* Storybook Time*: Continuing Chapter 10 of *The Unconsoled* by Kasuo Ishiguro . . .

* Readings from *Bags End News*, *Labyrinthine*, & *Many Musics* . . . & this week featured artist is The Troggs, more treasures from their troves . . . snowing today, melting quickly, spring is coming inevitably, & welcomed as always . . .

On this week's show:

* Featured New Rock Album: The Jesus and Mary Chain, *Damage and Joy* (2017)  . . . This noisy melodic Scottish rock band was big in the 1980s and 1990s before breaking up in 1999 . . . revived by the core Reid Brothers in 2007, they've released their first album in 19 years, & it is a dandy . . . noisy melodic as ever, but the new twist are duets with various female vocalists that add a ragged charm to the LP . . . glad the brothers have joined up again & are rocking new . . .

* Featured Classic Rock Album: The Wipers, *Silver Sail* (1993) . . . Venerable Portland, Oregon punk band that my friend Hartlee introduced me to recently . . . the album I chose of theirs is more of an alt-country / Americana-sounding record, but I just dig its Neil Young / R.E.M. feel . . . really good music . . .

* Storybook Time*: Continuing Chapter 11 of *The Unconsoled* by Kasuo Ishiguro . . .

* Readings from *Bags End News*, *Labyrinthine*, & *Many Musics* . . . & this week featured artist is The Troggs, another heaping helping from their noisy garage o'tunes . . . thinking also of Hartlee for our night 20 years ago, my first time walking through Miss Lucy's doorway, never to return . . .

On this week's show:

* Featured New Rock Album: The Feelies, *In Between* (2017)  . . . Obscure guitar gods from New Jersey, & their second LP since reuniting in 2008 . . . there's a quietness to this album that is new to these boys, but a pretty lure in it . . . & they do raise up the dust on a few of the tracks, especially the raucous 9+ minutes closer . . .

* Featured Classic Rock Album Redux: The Rolling Stones, *Let It Bleed* (1969) . . . Played this great album on the 3/27/2004 broadcast of this show, hear it again, dirty & sexy & rootsy & evil & beautiful as ever . . . telling the story of 1969 & thereabouts in just under 43 minutes  . . .

* Storybook Time*: Continuing Chapter 11 of *The Unconsoled* by Kasuo Ishiguro . . .

* Readings from *Bags End News* & *Labyrinthine* . . . & this week featured artist is The Troggs, one last visit with these boys, this time in 1992 as they teamed up with 3/4 of R.E.M. to create a kind of garage-jingle-jangle update on their classic sounds . . . warmer weather, harder work, higher hopes, nice motto to carry around . . .

On this week's show:

* Featured New Rock Album: Spoon, *Hot Thoughts* (2017)  . . . Spoon is great, no matter their music scorching soul, loud rock, or dipped elegantly in electronica . . . their new album is no exception . . . exciting music, gets the blood jumping . . .

* Featured Classic Rock Album: Eric Clapton, *461 Ocean Boulevard* (1974) . . . Clapton was gone from the world for three years, deep in the junk . . . kicked the junk, gathered a great group of musicians, & poured himself back into his music . . . the resulting LP is a great work, & wonderful to have his genius back to the wheel  . . .

* Storybook Time*: Continuing Chapter 11 of *The Unconsoled* by Kasuo Ishiguro . . .

* Readings from *Bags End News* & *Labyrinthine* . . . & this week featured artists are some of those featured on "American Top 40 with Casey Kasem" back on April 6, 1985 . . . wow, another birthday due soon, & doing this show is like an ongoing present to have . . .

On this week's show:

* Featured New Rock Album: Old Crow Medicine Show, *50 Years of Blonde On Blonde* (2017)  . . . These crazy punky Americana boys shift gears to give their tribute to a hero of theirs, culled into this album from a couple of live shows . . . moments when seems like Dylan is young & unbridled again, moments when the Crows reinvent him for their own purposes . . . great, fascinating stuff . . .

* Featured Classic Rock Album: Peter Gabriel, *So* (1986) . . . It was just for a short time really that the brooding, strange art-rock of Peter Gabriel & pop radio criss-crossed . . . kind of like he showed us all he *could* write a hard-driving, finger-snapping, pop song, when he wished . . . on this album, he wished, wonderful the results, & back elsewhere he skittered . . .

* Storybook Time*: Continuing Chapter 12 of *The Unconsoled* by Kasuo Ishiguro . . .

* Readings from *Bags End News* & *Labyrinthine* . . . & this week featured artists are more of those featured on "American Top 40 with Casey Kasem" back on April 6, 1985 . . . budding every tree and bush and leave, budding wild & quiet & free, and look and look and look, what do you see?
