On this week's show:

* Featured New Rock Album: Cracker, *Berkeley to Bakersfield* (2014) [Part One] . . This week's show begin's a long-needed catching up with the work of Cracker, a great American indie-freak-folk band that emerged in the early 1990s when David Lowery's wonderful former band, Camper Van Beethoven, broke up . . . Lowery partnered up with his childhood friend Johnny Hickman to form a band with a somewhat more conventional rock sound, but still fantastic . . . they have been going every since, even when Camper Van Beethoven happily reunited in 1999 . . . this record is the first half of their most recent effort, called the "Berkeley" record, full of Cracker-y goodness, funny, sweet, weird . . . .

* Featured Classic Rock Album: Cracker, *Kerosene Hat* (1993) . . . Stepping back some two decades to the band's second record, we find Cracker in full flight, a bunch of tripster Lokis, with hits even, "Get Off This" & "Low" . . . fun, satirical, serious at moments . . . great end to end . . .

* Storybook Time*: Continuing Chapter 10 of *The Unconsoled* by Kasuo Ishiguro . . .

* Readings from *Bags End News* . . . & this week featured artists are Black Oak & Jantar, who in 2015 split sides on a great EP called *Presage* . . . deep in the winter, cold, mostly snowless, just wanting pen to move & radio show to be good as it enters its 19th year . . .

On this week's show:

* Featured New Rock Album: Cracker, *Berkeley to Bakersfield* (2014) [Part Two] . . From the "Berkeley" platter, punky edged, to this, the "Bakersfield," more California countrified side . . . but this is Cracker country, so it's a bit skewed, well-played, often funny, & sweet as these smartass boys can be . . . "play it weird, this ain't Nashville" . . .

* Featured Classic Rock Album: Cracker, *Greenland* (2006) . . . It was this album that caused me to give recent Cracker records more attention . . . their sound has evolved to ever-more-Americana but, as with the more recent release above, Cracker twists whatever traditional or modern sound they take on their own ends . . . and they always rock out sooner or later . . . "everybody gets one for free . . . everybody gets one, everybody, 'cept for me" . . .

* Storybook Time*: Continuing Chapter 10 of *The Unconsoled* by Kasuo Ishiguro . . .

* Readings from *Bags End News* . . . & this week featured artists are are some of those featured on "American Top 40 with Casey Kasem" back on February 11, 1984 . . . snow coming and coming in New England, as Herr Clusterfuck rages and rages in DC . . . the Resistance won't ever quit, get it?

On this week's show:

* Featured New Rock Album: Jantar, *Panisperna* (2016)  . . . I know of this band because of the split EP they made with Black Dirt Oak, called *Presage*, back in 2015 (this great EP recently featured on this program) . . . their new album was recorded at the famed Black Dirt Studio in southwestern upstate New York . . . it is dreamy, triply, but something else too, a real bite to it down below . . . they are a mysterious & really good group . . .

* Featured Classic Rock Album: Black Crowes, *Amorica* (1994) . . . This was the Crowes' third album, continuing their winning ways . . . maybe even darker than their previous ones . . . there's an ancientness to their music that is hard to describe, but it feels wrought down in the old darknesses of the world . . .

* Storybook Time*: Continuing Chapter 10 of *The Unconsoled* by Kasuo Ishiguro . . .

* Readings from *Bags End News* . . . & this week featured artists are are more of those featured on "American Top 40 with Casey Kasem" back on February 11, 1984 . . . my dear friend Eurydice is back from a long period of repair, & this has me happy as almost anything . . .

On this week's show:

* Featured New Rock Album: Flaming Lips, *Oczy Mlody* (2017)  . . . More than many groups that have been around for decades, the Flaming Lips are one you have to keep up with . . . they make great music, they don't look back too much, & then they make *more* great music . . . this is a happy weird dark album from one of the coolest bands around, great music . . .

* Featured Classic Rock Album Redux: The Church, *Starfish* (1988) . . . This album was the one I discovered this Australian psychedelic band by, & it remains one of my favorites . . . First played on the 4/8/2006 broadcast, here it is again . . . the lyrics densely swirl, the ringing guitars like tabs of aural Hofmann . . . the whole thing a dream &, once heard, the wish to hear it again & again . . .

* Storybook Time*: Continuing Chapter 10 of *The Unconsoled* by Kasuo Ishiguro . . .

* Readings from *Bags End News* . . . & this week featured artists are are one final selected bunch of those featured on "American Top 40 with Casey Kasem" back on February 11, 1984 . . . my true love is in NYC, seeing movies all night with her friend, & me pre-recording this episode so I can stay out all night with pens, notebooks, & Polly iPod :)
