On this week's show:

* Featured New Rock Album: Leonard Cohen, *Old Ideas* (2012)  . . . Can't seem to get away from the late Leonard Cohen's late work . . . it's raw & funny & weird . . . it's beautiful & tender & powerful . . . there's a potent force to his songs that pulls one's ears along, a powerful water-like current, the temptation to jump in, ride along . . . no reason not to . . . let's go!

* Featured Classic Rock Album: Patty Griffin, *Living with Ghosts* (1996) . . . It was my beloved KD who has brought me into Griffin's sphere of music over the years, & I think at last I've paid the right amount of attention to her debut album . . . mostly just her big, beautiful voice, acoustic guitar, & passionate, deeply, feelingly, smart words, autumnal lyrics of the heart . . . finally arrived to her high hills of thought & feeling . . . what a view!

* Storybook Time*: Continuing Chapter 12 of *The Unconsoled* by Kasuo Ishiguro . . .

* Readings from *Bags End News* & *Labyrinthine* . . . & this week featured artist is Don Henley, & a few golden nuggets from his 1980s work . . . several weeks off, so SO back in action now, & ready to roll straight through many weekends of late spring & summer . . . here goes!

On this week's show:

* Featured New Rock Album: Slowdive, *Slowdive* (2017)  . . . Slowdive was a British dreampop band around in the early 1990s, made a splash for awhile, disbanded in 1995 . . . then in 2014 they reunited, toured, & eventually released this new album of music . . . they are a band best enjoyed at night, somewhere relaxed, maybe soft . . . then their hypnotic tunes best work their magicks . . . their old albums are pretty good, but the new one is just a happy strange joy of a thing . . .

* Featured Classic Rock Album: Nirvana, *MTV Unplugged in New York* (1994) . . . Seattle band Nirvana played this popular, & quite good, MTV show in November 1993 . . . their leader, Kurt Cobain, killed himself in April 1994 . . . the album of this show was released in November 1994 . . . so the show existed as a great thing on MTV for a few months, & then as a sad testament as a record thereafter . . . Nirvana was becoming something more than its grunge roots, something even more powerful & beautiful . . . had Cobain beat his demons, who knows how good . . . as it stands, this record, of a show occurring after their three albums, gives us this band at its apex creatively, before the fall . . . its unbelievably good . . .

* Storybook Time*: Continuing Chapter 12 of *The Unconsoled* by Kasuo Ishiguro . . .

* Readings from *Many Musics*, *Bags End News*, & *Labyrinthine* . . . & this week featured artists are some of those featured on "American Top 40 with Casey Kasem" back on June 7, 1986 . . . long summer is creeping into New England, even as the green everywhere here has enjoyed a sunny rainy spring so fine . . . time to dig in against the heat . . .

On this week's show:

* Featured New Rock Album: Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, *Push the Sky Away* (2013) . . . Like Leonard Cohen, this show had not gotten around to featuring the music of Nick Cave . . . &, like Cohen, time to rectify that . . . Cave's music is dark, moody, brooding . . . it's beautiful & weird, sounds powerfully ancient . . . "If you got everything and you don't want no more/ You've got to just keep on pushing, keep on pushing/ Push the sky away . . . "

* Featured Classic Rock Album Redux: Grateful Dead, *American Beauty* (1970) . . . Featured previously on this show on both 8/12/2001 & 6/16/2007, time to dig into this classic again . . . a psychedelic rock album with acoustic guitars, with an Americana feel to its sound, lyrics that tug & elude, again & again . . . especial proof, though there are others, that the Dead could make the recording studio their beautiful instrument as much as the live stage . . .

* Storybook Time*: Continuing Chapter 12 of *The Unconsoled* by Kasuo Ishiguro . . .

* Readings from *Bags End News*, & *Labyrinthine* . . . & this week featured artists are more of those featured on "American Top 40 with Casey Kasem" back on June 7, 1986 . . . my pen calls me to do more, do deeper, make art now, Make Art Now, MAKE ART NOW . . .

On this week's show:

* Featured New Rock Album: Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, *Skeleton Tree* (2016) . . . Toward this end of the recording of this album, Nick Cave's teenage son Arthur died in an accident . . . Cave & his main collaborator Warren Ellis did some additional work on the album to deal with the emotional devastation of this tragedy . . . It is very difficult to separate this horrible event from the music that emerges . . . yet Cave's grief is his own, & it would be unfair to judge his album solely by his family's tragedy . . . this all said, this is a beautiful album, a deeply strange & moving album . . . a thing of nocturnal beauty . . . wow . . .

* Featured Classic Rock Album: Bob Seger, *Seven* (1974) . . . Bob Seger was not yet a star when this album was released, but he was on his way . . . he had recently assembled his Silver Bullet Band, & he was writing moving, funny, endearing, rocking music . . . his dues paid as he worked out who he was, & how he wanted his music to sound . . . this LP shows him & his band billowing out full sail, under way . . .

* Storybook Time*: Continuing Chapter 12 of *The Unconsoled* by Kasuo Ishiguro . . .

* Readings from *Bags End News*, *Many Musics*, & *Labyrinthine* . . . & this week featured artists are one last bunch of those featured on "American Top 40 with Casey Kasem" back on June 7, 1986 . . . this is show #600 of this program, coming 18 1/2 years into its run . . . as a remembering treat, it includes a sound collage from back in 2000, the beginning of including the shinier bits & pieces of old shows . . . but most this show is for this weekend, for now, as always . . . it's a strange number, magic in a way . . . so praise, thankee, praise more, thankee more, keep the wheels rolling, the pen moving, the music ever on . . .
