I like to always keep alert about new drugs that I can try so I play with Erowid when i'm bored. I fell across a plant called Datura today and started reading experiances.
What I discovered was that it was so incredibly powerfull that it seems unreal. I'm just wondering if anyone here has tried this because it seriously seems like something to leave alone (and I never think that).

My brother-in-law tried datura once in his youth. He hasn't told me much about the trip other than it was 3 days and quite unpleasant. He wouldn't do it again. I think most people should leave this one alone.

It's a nasty plant and can kill you. Some people like to take small amounts but the "buzz" is more like a delirium. There are so many pleasant plants, why use something like that?

Ya I pretty much decided not to ever do it after reading 2 experiances on Erowid. Now with the comments you guys have made it's concrete. My friends are another story, they all want to try it and are attempting to obtain some seeds asap.
I've told them it's super poisonous and even dosage isn't told on Erowid for this reason. I'm going to try and stop them for sure, but they are their own people and their decisions are final.....

I have nothing against any plant, but when I find datura growing on my property (it's quite an invasive weed) I pull it up without second thought. I wouldn't want my small children to get into it.
I've had toe (a type of datura) in ayahuasca ceremonies in Peru, but it's always been in very safe and controlled circumstances. This is definitely not a plant to play with.
Your friends sound foolish. In the future you may think twice before mentioning any poisonous plants you find out about while playing at Erowid.

Well usually I am just as foolish (to speak on behalf of my friends), but this one is just a bit over the top. I couldn't help but show them it either the experiances were just to unreal and kinda funny to read (but not to experiance i'm sure).

Might I suggest reading Castenada's books and see for yourself what she is. I do not like that plant and would not even dream of messing with her. I agree, your friends sound very foolish and b/c of this, have a good chance of dying from it!

I have to agree with Too Stoned and Stony in that this plant is not something you'd want to mess with... Yes, I admit to doing it 3 times in my past life... Hey what can I tell 'ya except that it is definitely not a high, not a rewarding experience, but more truly a nerve poison and definitely an unfun deleriant.... I don't find fault with either you or your friends curiosity though... I for one, have no axe to gring with the reason a person chooses to use, or not use a plant/chem/whatever.... Some will seek solitude and enlightenment, while others seek hedonistic 'bang 'da gong' experiences with substances... 'Tis not for me to judge, other than I do wish all a safe journey ------------- sal

took atropinbe tablet once in a lab, not much effect as it slows down gut metabolism/activity so absorption is real slow, was only low dose, to measure effects on muscarinic nervous system. noticed a slight daze afterwards, not really pleasant, numb if anything, but almost frustrating as produced a kinda confused and lost feeling, like you have no idea what is going on for a while whille u stand there dazd...
personally, not my type of plant to experiment with, in same category as nutmeg as a deleriant... can go into a fevorish delerium if ya smoke shoots off sprouting potatoes apparently, havent head anyone trying it directly...
but it does have very real potential to kill if dose id too large, and from plants it is hard to titrate as is highly variable
if your friends insist on trying, do so as a tea form, and sip slowly, not balls to the wall or nething, slower abs has upside of a less peaked/toxic peaked experiment, but the downside of increased duration of effects,
definitly donot reccomend its use tho...
on another note, Datura metel double purple have the most beautiful flowers! so so alot of Brugmansia's (tree datura)... powerful beauty

To think that something so incredibly beautiful could hold such infinate power. I almost want to just eat the whole flower just looking at it. What trickery this wicked plant displays

Visionarybear>> I think that was me. I wrote a blurb on it on the old SPF. Very nasty poisoning indeed! Keep away from those sprouts! And keep away Datura as well, or smoke small amounts with ganj, as the Saddhu's do.
It is a beautiful plant and very vigourous, I've got my dad addicted to growing them. Quite strange actually, maybe it's the narcotic smell from the flowers or something.

when I need to be reminded of what NOT to do...I go and read all the Datura reports.....this is also a plant/drug which can change your brain chemistry forever....it you have a lose screw or a cracked filtering mechanism.....Datura will break them, and they might not get fixed....Be very wary and careful.....some folks don't come back...

Maybe it changes your for the better? Hahahha just kidding I'm definatly never going to touch this stuff. Thanks everyone for you input about this I now have a decent amount of points to hopefully stop my friends from doing it. I think death or life with a perminently changed brain chemistry should do the trick (I know that it would for me at least). Thanks again!

I remember someone saying here once that a GOOD datura trip is one where you end up in the hospital.
