I got this cutting from a botanical garden where it was said to be piper methysticum. The thing is that the leafs doesn't look at all as the ones I've seen on pictures, could it just be a different strain than the usual, or is it something else?

Thanks :)

they're not as round and heart-shaped as kava usually is...your leaves are more enlongated....

nope thats not kava at all.

i spent a few months in fiji drinking kava with the natives, and had the experience of growing and tending to the plants, and that looks nothing like it.

please view my thread here.
it has quite a few pics of the plant itself, and the process of brewing.

I think the plant is a piper at least since it looks like one. The leafs doesn't smell anything when i rub them, how does kava smell? My piper betle on the other hand smells like hotdogs, are that right?
Here are a few better pictures of the plant, any id help would be nice.

It doesn't look like the kava plants I use to have. There are a lot of related species.

it could be a possibility that you were sold Macropiper Excelsum instead, which is a different kind of kava, and the leafs of that can range in shape.

Let it grow out a little more, but i agree it resembles a piper family plant, due to the appearance of its stems.
