I am wondering where I can get information about this plant.
I would like to know more about its chemistry and indigenous uses, but information seems lacking.

I'm with you, I'd like more onfo on it myself. All I've ever found on the net was a listing for it as an ayahuasca additive. It's called borrachero which means drunkeness maker. This is intriguing but no one seems to know the active ingredients.

I'm growing it at the present time. It propagates well by cuttings but mine have never set seed. it flowers but no seed. I haven't tried it yet.

The R. E. Schultes book on medicinal plants of the amazon has a couple brief entries on it. Never seen any mention of its use in ayahuasca in any reports on the net.

It's a pretty plant, easy to maintain and well worth growing. Nice purple/green foilage.

Yes, the leaves will turn red if it's grown in the sun. It seems to prefer shade or partial shade. Has anyone tried smoking the dried leaves? Seems like that would work or else make a tea from it.

Trout said he is aware of no information on its chemistry, he did say that is have been bioassayed, but did not mention how.
And the reports were conflicting, one said it was like DMT, another said it was like belladonna. It is interesting, but without more information I have no plans on doing anything but growing it.

I can't even find (yet) how much is traditionally added to the brew, that would be helpful information.

I know someone who tried smoking a lot of it. He said his guess was the tropane alkaloids, if anything.

Makes a good house plant, though....
