Man, me and Something were out in the Utah desert a couple years ago where the Ephedra grows all over the place...grows like sagebrush does in our home territory Idaho.
It was in the spring...March I think it was...I got to looking at the Ephedra that grew out there...it was what I think you call a "perenial". You could see the dead growth of previous years. Again, as I say...much like sagebrush. (Artesma sp.?)
Looking at the surroundings and all...I wouldn't think that it would take much to grow Ephedra. By the looks of the landscapes...a good few soakings early in the season and mostly neglect for the rest of the year. Lots and lots of sun.
I guess the question...are you trying to grow this dude indoors? Not to discourage you, but I almost bet that if you are...Good luck!!
I happened to notice...Man, the ground squirrels or what ever goes for them out there all had little poke holes under the older plants. It seemed a funny little symbiosis. Just an observation.
You should have seen Something trying to eat the pad cactus out there! (Be sure to singe the cactus well before putting it in your mouth!)
Ephdra is a gangly, wirey looking plant. It's not what most would call pretty...but seen in the canyons...it shades and seems to keep down the soil quite well. I wouldn't take back that trip for a million bucks...
i have my first sprout from some of the seeds i put in soil not sand.. and its about 2 cm in height and looks strong.. yeah im growing them under a fluorescent light but its working i guess only 1 has spourted out of 20 seeds.. but its cool that one is strating after 2 weeks, hopefully i could see some more poping up in the future.. peace
I tried to grow them 2 , have sown 100 seeds in 2 years time , only 10 came out but died in no time.
ive tried everything
A sunny place with # lots # medium # little water
A sunny/shady place with # lots # medium # little water
A shady place with # lots # medium # little water
and with diffrent soil types
I think they dont like to be grown in cultivation, because my family has seen how huge they can become in nature and there are even crappyer conditions then what i give them
yeah i work at a garden center nursery all i do is work with plants.. so if i where to kill them i would be a dumbass.. not saying that im not a dumbass because i am.. but sometimes seeds can be tricke and in time wheater/light/watering they can die or they just never spout..
