I would like to know if someone else has grown Mitragyna speciosa from seed and if their plants looked at all like mine?
Does my plant look like a thai strain since it has the redness in the leaf veins?
Why do all the pictures online have more round leaves and not with the tip like my plant?
Do the leaves have a different morphology when the plant is older?
I planted like over 500 seeds but only got 1 seed to germinate. I could of gotten more maybe if I had waited.
I would post pics if this stupid website didnt make them so big and blurry.
Anyone know how to use paint to edit pics? I forgot how to do that.

Irie Dog, Quote: Anyone know how to use paint to edit pics? Try hitting ctrl+w, then 50% vert+50% horz, hit enter, ctrl+s to save. Hope that helps??? As for the Kratom query, sorry can't help much as I have several tiny seedling from a batch of 50 seeds I planted a few weeks back. Good luck, Bro. Respect Z

Well then why do the pictures I see online such as on Erowid.org look more round leafed and without a tip?
Do leaves look different as the plant gets older?

Dunno... mine was clearly looking like that. I'll try to see if I have a picture (don't think so) and, if not, I'll send a picture chen leaves will grow again. The leaves are lanceolate and narrow as yours and the stem are reddish too... But maybe it's not a thai one... it was sold to me with that name, that's all !

Sid,
Why did your plant lose all its leaves? Did it get too cold and go deciduous?
Ive heard some plants will do that. I am not sure what temperature to keep them at.
Is 50 F too cold? I plan to keep my plants outside during the day ( If the temp is above 70 F) and bring them indoors at night if it gets below 60. ( which is most nights in northern Florida during the winter)
The problem is that I have a small cat and he might eat the plants or dig them out of the pots. I will have to keep them in the bathroom with the door closed.
The subtropical plants I will keep outside but tropicals I am going to bring indoors.

Yeah, I let mine outside too long (in France, it's beginning to be cold, even if I'm near mediterrannee where climate might be about the same as yours). I took it inside last week and it's beginning to make new leaves.
I already killed a rifat last year with the t° !
I think here t° are about 6/10°C at night now (about 43-50°F) since a week or two... too cold in my opinion (maybe it's possible to "accustom" (haven't found better word !) the plant to cooler climate, but I think it's a challenge I don't want to take !!
There are lots of plants which are supposed to take the cats away, but I'm not sure if it actually works !!
good luck !

That is 100% Thai Kratom from seed.
The pics ytou see on erowid are mostly from the cloned trees. Seed grown plants at that size almost always have longer pointier leaves.
I was actually surprised at how rounded your leaves are for a seed grown plant.
But if you are still wondering, yes, that is definitely what it is supposed to be.

Kratom is generally hardy down to lows 40'sF. Forgot to answer that part. Anymore Kratom questions, just shoot! It's my specialty.

I keep mine outside unless it is going to drop below 40 degrees F which usually doesnt happen until around 2am or so. I just bring all my plants in around 11pm since its still about 39/40 at that time.
I have two Yohimbe trees which someone told me they dont like temps below 50 F.
I am not sure but he could be right. I know some palms are ultratropical such as the Sealing wax palm. It doesnt like temps below 60 F and can't even be grown in Miami,Florida.
The Yohimbe looks like half the leaves have browned. Is this normal?
Do they need shade? I try to put it in shade but im not always home and dont know the most ideal spot where it gets indirect sunlight.
Maybe shade cloth would help?

Chocolate is a good example of a megatherm, it will die in temperatures below 40F. I don't think yohimbe is that sensitive, and I can't find any references that it can't handle below 50 - I've never tried growing it though. I think yohimbe, like kratom, grows to be a very tall tree, so it can probably handle full sun. When I see browning leaves on a plant, the things I look at before anything are insufficient water, spider mites, and then I start researching soil/fertilizer issues and other things specific to the species.

Well Psychotria ipecacuanha which belongs to the same family as Kratom and Yohimbe; it can handle full sun ive noticed.
Someone said Psychotria spp. grow better or faster in shade. I haven't tried growing them in shade but i definately will when it is summer here since then it will be very hot.
The problem with kratom is sometimes the pot will seem like its still moist and then all of a sudden it wilts so bad it looks dead.
Then I water it and it jumps right back up. I dont like to overwater plants but kratom will wilt sometimes even when it has plenty of water.

Kratom grows in pretty wet soil naturally. You definitely want to water it on a regular schedule. It will also wilt more often when it gets rootbound. They're huge trees, growing them in a pot will be a little challenging.
