Yeah, I agree:

Learning to Use the GIMP is every bit as challenging as learning to use Photoshop CS2.

As a matter of fact: Windows Computers = GEEK HOURS (Unless you don't update your virus definitions every day and scan for spyware ... )

(I NEVER Scan for Viruses: my System doesn't have any ... )

You are very Astute: I was in the Navy also.

I've been trying out Ubuntu on the other half of my Dual Boot "PowerMac7,3" and while it is Cool I don't recommend it for the typical computer user.

I've reinstalled The whole Ubuntu OS 9 times in the last month. It's not ready for prime time yet. I have 30 years in Programming/Computer Experience and have always bought Macintosh Computers ...

(I Started out Programming CDC 1702 mainframes with Fortran IV on Punched cards. No such thing as a GUI in those bad old days .... )

I've helped a Dozen people move from Windows to Macintosh: they have ALL been Grateful! And Apple tech support (ME) is a Phone call away - for them.

I would recommend an Apple Laptop to my Mother or Grandmother. That'd be a LOT Less technical support I'd wind up having to provide ....

And even though Macintosh come with all you could wish for, software wise, built in: you can still get thousands and thousands of free programs at dozens of Sites!

http://www.versiontracker.com/macosx/lt/freeware Mac (7,858 Programs) - See?

http://www.versiontracker.com/windows/freeware Windows (7,026 Programs) (until you switch to Mac shop here for new Windows software first.)

note that the Mac Platform has more programs than Windows does now - it used to be the other way around a couple of years ago ...

Hey it's really "LINUX=Geek Hours" I'm learnin it the hard way!
