Have you seen this yet??

In case you don't know, this is a musical using Beatle songs to tell a story of life smack dab in the middle of the 60s. I usually approach movies about the 60s, acid, music ect. wth some trepidation, but this one is exceptional. It seems to have something for everyone: a dramatic love story, great music, lots of politics, Kesey's bus(Bono as Dr Robert, a cross between Kesey and Cassady), humor, great special effects and stunts.

All and all I would say it a substantial work of art, very moving. It shows the almost Shaksperean scope of The Beatles opus, there are songs for every emotion and experience we humans have. The music was treated with great respect and the kids are all wonderful singers Highly recommended!

Have not seen it... I also have that trepidition thing regarding depictions of that quintessential era... The reason I have not seen it yet is because whilst attending other movies, I have seen the previews enough times to be certain that this is a 'magnum opus', a memorable view into those rarified times and I wan't to wait for just the 'right moment' to view it.... BTW, come to think of it; maybe the evening they come on TV and announce Obama has won would be a fine time to view.........

A magnum opus indeed. I waited as well (until I was umm "in the right frame of mind"). We had a crappy bootleg copy that kept glittching out and going back to the beginning and wouldn't let us fast forward fastetr than 16x. So in the interst of putting my money where my mouth is and having an optimum viewing experience I went out and bought the "deluxe edition".

Caught this one last night. I really liked it and that's coming from a guy who doesn't normally like musicals.

Thanks for the tip, jrl.

Very much enjoyed it, Joe. A wonderful addition to the canon of Beatles tributes out there. I recommend you get the soundtrack to the Cirque Du Soleil performance, "Love," a wonderful Beatles tribute, music produced by George Martin. Very much in the same vein of classic music and new artistic interpretion.

My niece gave me that for xmas. I was hesitant at first, not being a fan of the art of remixing, but it really grew on me.

Another example of the power of the Beatles work.

Me and my compadre Steve Foster have been adapting Beatle tunes to our "power trio" format. The early ones work easily but we worked out an arrangment of Here Comes the Sun, the most difficult tune we have tackled. Now we are working on I Want You (She's So Heavy).

Did I see/hear Joe Cocker in that flick or am I imagining (more) things?

Yep, that was Joe Cocker singing Come Together. With A Little Help From My Friends also eludes to the Cocker version.

I watched some of the "special features" in my deluxe edition. A real good glimpse of a genius at work, Judy Tamor is nothing short of amazing!!

I enjoyed the film a lot more than I thought I would, the soundtrack is not bad at all. The Cirques "Love" soundtrack is awesome. Listen and try figure out what songs are being mashed together. There are loads of little bit thrown its a great challenge for a Beatles buff.
Theres also The Beatles:Rockband video game. http://www.thebeatlesrockband.com/ Looks like it could be very interesting..

I have 2 'letric geetars now (Fender Strat that I modified with a HotRails pick-up in the bridge and a Gretsch knock-off of a Gibson Les Paul with a Bigsby arm) and this song was the first that my instructor gave me to learn the chords to.

Then I found the movie on the cable service and watched. I agree, good flick.

Amazing to me was how moving playing the song was - I nearly cried.

Hey Winder!! Glad to see you are still playing. Hot rails are a good mod for a Strat, Ive seen em in the neck pickup or the bridge or all three.

So how ya doin?
